Tales 16

Tales of one with time: Entry No. 16
Today, we revisit the subject of music, and this time it's to play my "old geizer" card, I'm not that old now, but everyone that's lived in periods of time that could be considered seperate has the right to play the "everything was better in my days" hit.
Now, I hate to appear this old, I'm young and energetic still, but music today sucks! (there are obviously exceptions, but the vast mayority isn't worth while), most of it seems repetitive, banal, uninspired, it produces no reaction from within, that reaction that you can't explain but that makes you know that not only is the music there and you are listening to it, but also that it's stimulating.
You see the man in this picture? He was a real musician, this man lived, breathed, ate and transpired art; He used to go by the name of Jimi Hendrix, you would see him get up on stage and give it all and more: Mr. hendrix used to get out there, start playing a song, he never played it the same way, he improvised the most enlightened solos, everything on there was writen by him. When recording, it had to be done many, many times until he considered it perfect, he poured his heart and soul into his performances and got so into it that sometimes that emotion could only be expressed through the direct destruction of the instrument by smashing and burning of it. Every video of this man emmanates energy and feeling.
Today what do we have? We have a certain Mr. Wayne (of the "little" variety) who when he sings simply sounds like he's choaking, we have a bunch of talentless little kids who have the money to get a production studio to produce the crappiest songs, to the point where they get such hate that they're removed from the internet (As opossed to much of the internet, I'm not bashing Justin Bieber, I personally don't like his music, but he seems to have something going for him), and we have a guy that gets up on a stage, presses play on his macbook and turns the volume up and down in the most frantic way I've ever seen anyone do it... it sucks (I hate to be repetitive in my usage of words, but it really does deserve it).
Finally, I don't know how much influence from this you've gotten in the rest of the world, but here in latin america, we have this thing called "reggaeton", this is basically a repetitive beat with missoginistic lyrics, usually "sung" by puerto ricans who think they really are cool, needless to say, they aren't so in conclusion: Everything wasn't better in my days, but music certainly was before them.

  1. What about Janis Joplin?, can you include a video about the subject?

  2. I was just using Hendrix as an example, it would be impossible for me to go about mentioning everyone who might deserve that mention.
